SIM800L GSM / GPRS Module + External Antenna
📡 SIM800L GSM / GPRS Module with External Antenna
Overview
Compact, lightweight, and efficient, the SIM800L GSM/GPRS module operates on quad-band 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, enabling SMS, voice calls, and mobile data via GPRS. Includes an external antenna for enhanced signal and designed for integration with microcontrollers like Arduino, ESP32, and Raspberry Pi.
Key Features
Supports quad-band GSM/GPRS (worldwide compatibility)
External SMA antenna connector for better reception
Compact board with level-shifting circuitry
Supports PWR, RESET, NET, TX/RX, GND, and SIM card pins
UART communication at 9600–115200 bps
Low-power mode (≈1 mA sleep); active current peaks during GSM operations
Technical Specifications
Parameter | Value |
---|---|
Frequency Bands | Quad-band 850/900/1800/1900 MHz |
Supply Voltage | 3.4–4.4 V (optimal ~4 V) |
Active Current Peaks | ~2 A during TX bursts |
Sleep Current | ~1 mA |
UART Interface | TX, RX (3.3 V TTL/level-shifted) |
Size | ~23 × 35 × 5.6 mm module board |
Wiring – Arduino Uno Example
VCC → 4 V power (capable of ≥2 A)
GND → Arduino GND
TXD → Arduino RX (D10 via voltage divider)
RXD → Arduino TX (D11)
NET → Optional GPIO for network status
PWRKEY → Toggle high (2 s) to power on/off
💡 Use proper battery or buck converter; add at least 1000 µF decoupling on VCC to handle GSM power spikes.
Applications
SMS-based alerts and remote control systems
Remote telemetry via GPRS TCP/UDP
Geolocation (using CellID) for tracking devices
Voice-triggered IoT systems
Emergency messaging and alarm notifications
